Gamenotes 2023 Week 1- Jumping to Conclusions by Cherry-picking Stats that Support my Narrative

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Nebraska manages to steal defeat from the jaws of certain victory. The staggering statistics of one score losses and mind numbing defeats has crossed from comical to statistically improbable. To make matters worse, rooting against Scott Frost was so so so easy and Rhule seems like a likable dude. It’s going to take more than one Big 10 West game to reverse the Pelini Curse. Okay one stat and I’ll stop after this I promise. Nebraska has lost 14 one score games since 2021. I just want to say, that is incredible, incredible they get ANYONE to show up to a game with the amount of depression they must be feeling. Maybe they start double-headers with the volleyball team… This might have been the perfect way to start the final season of Big 10 West football.

What is this? I need to get out of bed! This is must see TV. I am so excited!

Should’ve stayed in bed. All I saw was Michigan State’s Carter looking very dominant, a QB in Kim who had clearly settled down and appeared more than competent, and maybe already the catch of the year for a TD. And sweat, like pools of sweat, a truly impressive amount of sweat on Tucker. Oh shoot I need a stat for the theme… uhh.. uhh… Mel Tucker sweats more than the average human. That is a factual stat. You can look it up.

Not much to say here and that is a good thing. Michigan takes care of business without Harbaugh and the pass game looked great. Roman Wilson looked worthy of the #1 jersey meanwhile Corum rushed for whet felt like a measly 7.3 yards per carry. The amount of commercials was the thing that bothered me most but that only slightly surpassed the amount of wrongness the replay ref commentator was spouting. And watching on Peacock was annoying in general too, making it all but impossible to swap to other games during insufferably long commercial breaks. Everything except for the actual football was annoying. Can I just watch football?

Another game that promised a massive amount of Gamenotes content at halftime only to have the second half be severely disappointing. Are Ohio State fans mad about this game? I bet they are, that brings me a small shred of happiness.

Utah dismantles Florida. This feels like something we all can get behind as a good and fun result. Florida hasn’t won a non-conference game outside the state of Florida since 1989. My writing sucks but dang these stats are good. Thanks Utah, very nice. I’ll try to remember this one when contemplating the next.

I don’t know, it just feels like Colorado and Deion Sanders are the villains. Why do I feel so negatively towards them? Has the media warped my perception of what Deion represents as a football coach? It just feels like TCU is the homegrown, build it up from nothing, do it the right way program who rose to power through their own merit. While Colorado hits the portal, promises a new era of college football, and instantly becomes an all style no substance program I’ve grown to disdain. But what I saw when I watched was a team that played very hard, had an electric QB who is the son of the coach, and a stud athlete in Travis Hunter who plays like a mad man on BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL. That’s fun, that is college football stuff that I want to see. I guess if they had beat someone like USC or Oklahoma I would’ve loved every second of it. Colorado being good is fun, Shedeur Sanders is fun, I’m going to watch Colorado games this year and be intrigued. Deion feels like a car salesman who gives off the schwarmy feeling when you encounter him but only because it’s hard to imagine someone being that energetic about everything all the time. I usually get won over by those personality types once I can convince myself it is genuine.

It is very exhausting to hear about how far Joe Milton can throw an orange. He averaged 6.7 yards per completion today. It is a thwomping, can’t be mad about a thwomping. I just know where this is headed with Milton.

I was informed on College Gameday this morning that Drake Maye is Luke Maye’s little brother and now I am sad because now I have to hate him. Drake is Luke’s brother, does that count as a stat? I am 2 for 2 on disliking Maybe brothers now. There we go.

Michigan State fans on average will take 3 *gulps* upon seeing this box score.

I like rooting for Florida State in small doses and Jordan Travis makes that even easier. What makes even easier x2 is that they are playing LSU. Give me Florida State 34 – LSU 31.
